History of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

For over 25 years BCAM also referred to as NBCAM (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month), has coordinated the efforts of government agencies, non profit organizations, and health and medical professionals to increase awareness of the disease and raise funds for continued research.  Founded in 1985 by the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical company Imperial Chemical Industries, the goal of the organization focuses on early detection and prevention of Breast Cancer.  The month of October was designated as Breast Cancer Awareness month, and support for continued awareness and research is recognized worldwide.
